To the man of the hour, or at least the hip-hop Man of 2012, Mr. Kendrick Lamar. While Lamar probably hasn’t garnered a ton of pub in this space (mainly because I have been an intermittent blogger), he’s one of the top rappers out and certainly the best new talent in the genre.
Back in October, he released his major label debut, good kid, m.A.A.d City to much acclaim. From the Kendrick Lamar EP to O.D. to Section.80, the kid has continued to evolve his rhyme schemes and style while continuing to remain incredibly creative. good kid, m.A.A.d City was no different. In fact, it was probably the top hip-hop album of 2012.
One of the songs on the project was “Backseat Freestyle.” A song in which, as he rides through Compton with his homies, they throw in an instrumental for him to “freestyle” over. Outside of the mainstream single “Swimming Pools,” this marks Kendrick’s second visual from the project. If you haven’t checked the album out yet, please do so. It would be the wise thing to do.
