Now that I am back to blogging (wow, how many times have I come and gone and come and gone), I am going to work to give shine to artists outside of our default genre here – hip-hop. Great music is great music. Creative visuals are creative visuals. Great art is great art. I want to lend credence to those that are following their creative paths and delivering a product that is so true to their essence that it allows no choice but to stand out.
Of late, hip-hop music has not done a good job of holding my attention. Some of it is me, some of it is the fact that there are not many artists pushing the envelope creatively. In my effort to branch out and discover great artists and great music, no matter how popular or obscure – and honestly, just to get me thinking differently – I stumbled upon Toro Y Moi. Now, consider me late as fuck to this party.
I get it. You probably already know all about him. Well, you should have told me. That much would have been appreciated. The South Carolina native (my current state of residence) brings some funk and flavor that has me intrigued as I play catch up on his past musical offerings. “So Many Details” is off his upcoming release, Anything in Return.
As they say, better late than never.
